“RARITIES & CURIOSITÉS” MANUEL BARBER

The works presented here revolve around a global idea, the concept of origin, in terms of the principle of the human being and the awareness of having it; from the psychological experience of feeling imprisoned in a body with a transcendental past.

This idea or concept is expressed in different visual metaphors that adopt the photographic language without ceasing to refer to the pictorial language. These allusions, almost always ironic, frequently refer to the baroque aesthetic tradition, as this is perhaps the one that has best captured the psychological weakness and spiritual abyss that human beings face. A sensation of vertigo that for decades has taken refuge in the religion in an attempt to avoid the fall; hence the metaphor as a resource and the lyricism of the images.

This work is an attempt to revisit certain aspects of the history of art that have tried to reflect the search for footholds that has dominated man.
