“NIGHT JOURNEYS OF THE SUN”. RUTH QUIRCE

Ruth Quirce (1964) presents a series of recent works that judiciously pronounce a plastic language with an abstract tendency, rich in vibration and rhythm, with chromatic gradation and geometric sequence as allies. At least that's how his work could be defined right off the bat. However, it would not be complete, just as it is not complete to think of an exclusively pictorial layout. In the case of the mixed compositions on canvas (paintings on many occasions intervened with pleasure using fine threads) the Madrid artist approaches respectfully but noisily the teachings of the last Palazuelo. It does so by cultivating geometric patterns and the straight line but ignoring to a large extent the analysis of the form and running with the expense of a greater warmth, of a formal suggestion that goes beyond its merely superficial attributes to cultivate a certain depth, rather than lyrical, metaphysical. , a capture of the indecipherable that the visible forms contain. Several photographs are also shown here, fewer in number and also less powerful (the format may not help too much), which complete the clues about the scope of the Madrid's intentions. These are images that use the book as a territory, moving away from the motif itself to fix the gaze on the sets of relationships between planes and lines that are demarcated by light. And it is that the nexus of all his work, the object of his plastic investigation, seems to be precisely the presence and flight of light. We'll see what that search brings. At the moment, Quirce has works with mystery that it is worth delving into.
